1st Task - Drake the proud and lonely prince

I was sort of on leave from Stories Telling for 1 week, and after hearing the discussion among the members at our Bold play therapy training, I myself felt more panicked, and during that time I still haven't listened to Alex's sent audio of the online group tutorial - very stressed.

Yesterday, I listened to the audio until 12.45am and today I looked at the 3 Skeleton stories and can't decides to chose The Magic Stone or The Lonely Prince. In the end I chosen The Lonely Prince, but turn it into a setting in a fairyland. I have chosen the names of my character from the and Faries World website, and little do I know they have girl and boy fairies names, my prince name Drake in the faries world it mean Dragon, Alvin is an elf, noble friend, Elvy is an elf warrior, Kalen is an elf warrior and last Foster the wiseman is a forrest guardian.

I have not yet tape into audio, but would like very much if you can help me to edit it.

Here my story begins:-

Drake the proud and lonely prince

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful fairyland named Twinkleforrest and it is ruled by royal fairies, and the other fairies lived peacefully and happily there.
Drake was the prince of Twinkleforrest, he was bright, handsome, confident and also like cleanliness. He loved singing, reading and flying freely in the forest. But, Drake only wants to play with the children who have the same quality as him. This leaves Drake very lonely, because there is hardly anyone who is as perfect as him.

The King and Queen realised this problem, they have tried many ways but it is no help at all, Prince Drake still does not wants to be friends with the imperfect.

The King sent his men to find Foster the Forest Guardian. When he arrived the king said to him “Foster, how can Drake rule my kingdom in future, when he has no friends? Please help me to solve this problem.”

After many sleepiness nights, Foster came up with an idea and presented it to the king. The next day, the king sends for Prince Drake and gives him a task. “Drake, you are going to be the King one day, so in order to test your ability you are to bring back the ‘Rainbow’ stone which is in the Forbidden Island with the help of these 3 fairies which I have chosen to help you”.

When Drake saw the fairies, he exclaimed “But father (pointed to the 1st fairy) this one is so dirty and with so many dirt on him, this one has feet like fins and wet and it is so ugly and the last one had such an enormous pair of wings, how can they help me to get the stone, I am sure to fail. “ But the king, brushes it off, and sends the prince on his journey.

Little do the prince knows, that the three fairies are Alvin the earth fairy (he lived on the ground and sometimes underground that is why his body is always cover with dirt), Elvy the water fairy (he lived under the Slivermist the enchanted river) and the last one Kalen who can carry the heaviest and fly the highest.

Half way through the journey across the forest of the Forbidden Island, Drake was lost and got separated himself from the other fairies. The prince said to himself, “Well, I will be better off without them, they do not have special power and will not be any help to me anyway, I am bright and strong and I will get to Rainbow stone myself.” As he went deeper into the forest, it was very dark, cold and he can hears a lot of strange sound, seems like the trees are wailing, the birds are screaming and many more. At that moment he felt very tried, cold and very lost; he slumped at the bottom of a tree and wept. Suddenly he saw a giant earthworm coming towards him, and this make him panicked and afraid, then he heard a voice said, “Thank you very much Earthly, you found Prince Drake” and the voice belongs to Alvin the earth fairy and he turned to the prince and said, “Your highest, do you know it is very dangerous to walk alone in the forest? There are many unfriendly creatures that may harm you.” Then the prince was so happy to see him and said, “I am sorry for worrying you all, and thank you for finding me and it would not happen again, let us continue our journey together”.

The continued journey across the Forbidden Island is much easier with the strength of Alvin who had the power to control the land. Elvy, the water fairy helped them to cross over the dark river of the Forbidden Island and Kalen who are able to carry them all when they were tried to fly.

Finally, they reached their destination and found the Rainbow stone which was placed by Foster at the mountain top to test the prince. When the prince returns to Twinkleforrest, he realised that it was wrong to have discrimination towards the imperfect fairies. He felt ashamed on his previous behaviours and he now knows that everyone has their own strength and capabilities. He apologised to his three fairies friend and from that day onwards, he sang, played and explored the forest with them.

The King and Queen were very happy with the prince and thank Foster for turning the prince into a new leaf. The End.

Is it too heavy and long, please give comment.

  2. Melinda, you really got the hang of it. I thought the story you have created got all the ingredients of a potential therapeutic story which is enjoyable at the same time. Some suggestions, if the title contains "proud" how is this attribute of the Prince highlighted and contribute to the story? Did 'pride' partly contribute to his loneliness? If so, how does that his transformation into humility and sensitivity as the potential solution in the story of the character come about. Could the development of the story contain that theme or else what will be the purpose of having the title and the adjective "proud”. I thought you dealt with the first part of Alvin very well but skimmed over Silvermist and Kalen parts. In the story you may wish to show the progressive change in the thinking and feeling of Drake as he encountered the challenges which eventually humbles him and as it dawn on him that his pride and prejudice were qualities that kept him lonely making him inaccessible socially. You got the message or moral of the story although I wonder if it could be frame more positively ”…..wrong to have discrimination towards the imperfect fairies.”…is a contradiction in terms. Well done! It is a very promising story and you seem to have pick up the skills so well. In your reflection give some thoughts to which types of clients with the kind of issues may potentially benefit from the hearing of this story.

  3. Prince Drake he was bright, handsome, confident and also like cleanliness but he only wants to play with the children who have the same quality as him - I want to protray this child are self-centred and snobbish. Very inexperience in life not able to underdstand the quality of other and only judging people by the looks.(sometimes this type of children does exist in schools and most of them come from well-to-do family, where they are provide and over protected over their childhood. This leaves Drake very lonely, because there is hardly anyone who is as perfect as him (this child will rather be lonely that play with those lacking children eg. slow learner, cripple, unkept appearance and etc.)
I was able to elaborate on Alvin, and would like to do so with Elvy, Kalen and also Foster, but we only have limited time and resource (5mins and an A4 paper). By the way, Silvermist is a river where Elvy lived.
I will of course do more the next time, meanwhile I will try to tape this story.
